Mini Gastric Bypass

Mini Gastric Bypass

The Mini Gastric Bypass is a modified version of the classic Gastric Bypass surgery. It involves splitting the stomach vertically and reshaping it into a sleeve, while leaving the rest of the stomach intact. A portion of the small intestine (2 meters forward) is connected to the new stomach, allowing food to bypass most of the small intestine. This approach slows food absorption and limits food intake due to the smaller size of the new stomach.

The surgery is typically performed laparoscopically with small incisions around the abdomen, allowing the patient to heal within a few days.

Possible Candidates for Mini Gastric Bypass

Patients with a BMI of 35 – 39.9 and obesity-related health problems such as hypertension, high cholesterol, type II diabetes, sleep apnea, and other diseases.

Patients with a BMI over 40 but without obesity-related health problems.

Patients with gastroesophageal reflux or a hernia in the diaphragm.

Diabetes patients with a BMI lower than 50.

Sugar addicts with a BMI lower than 50.

Enhanced quality of life with significant improvements reported by many patients.

Increased confidence following significant weight loss.

How Is Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Done?

  1. An anesthesia expert administers general anesthesia.
  2. The abdomen is inflated with carbon dioxide through incisions to create space.
  3. An endoscope connected to a monitor is inserted through small incisions to visualize organs.
  4. Surgical tools are inserted, and the stomach is freed from surrounding fat tissue.
  5. The upper part of the stomach is cut off to create a new stomach.
  6. The remaining part of the intestines is connected to the smaller stomach, bypassing the upper part.

Healing After Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery

Recovery is quicker than with conventional surgery. Patients usually stay in the hospital for 2 to 3 days and can return to work in 2 to 3 weeks. Full recovery typically occurs within 4 to 6 weeks.
